HORSE AGILITY AUSTRALIA – VICTORIA LAUNCH

Christine and I are pleased to announce the running two half-day clinics for potential trainers and those interested in learning more about the exciting new sport of Horse Agility.

Both will be fairly informal sessions to talk about horse agility, how trainers and groups work, the future of agility (competitions, events, ridden). There’ll also be opportunity to practice agility with horses (let us know if you’re bringing one).

  • Saturday 28 April  12:00 noon to 4:00pm               Geelong
With Kim Barker of Heartwood Horses - 176 English Rd, Bannockburn – Google Maps
  • Sunday 29 April        9:00am to 1:00pm                 Smiths Gully
With Maggie Broom of Grey Horse Growth & Learning – 80 Clintons Road, Smiths Gully – Google Maps

RSVP is required to support@horseagility.com.au (unless you’ve already accepted directly with one of the hosts), or contact me for more information.

We’re looking forward to being down there this weekend, and excited at the prospect of agility growing in Victoria as it has in other areas already – can’t wait to work with you all to bring it together!

A fun look at what horse agility is. You can use easy to find items like old tyres, wood from the tip, cheap tarps and door streamers from Bunnings, etc. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be fun. A coat of paint can make anything look good.

Donkey agility

HAA Trainer Lee (Corowa Agility group) says “This is our donkey ‘Sally’ doing a horse agiity course at liberty. She’s not perfect but we had lots of fun doing it! We only used rewards to teach Sally – no pain, fear or intimidation was used, and she remains very friendly towards humans.

Indy’s first agility

Indy did so well, it was great to see how his personality came out during the day, how he became more confident and sure of himself and where his feet were going. And his owner reports he loaded and traveled home really well

Equitana help

We have a limited number of positions for helpers on the Horse Agility Australia stand at Equitana in November.

The stand will have flyers about Horse Agility Australia, maps of where agility groups are, contact details of groups, info on forming a group, a few obstacles (yes, somehow we will!), and an agility video running. We hope to have an agility DVD out in time which we’ll be selling along with information & products from some of our sponsors/supporters/trainers.

If you’re keen to spend a day spreading the word about Horse Agility Australia I’d love to hear from you – drop me an email to andrew@horseagility.com.au and I’ll get back to you with more details.

We can’t offer you much, but you will get free entry to Equitana, a HAA polo shirt, an agility DVD, plus you’ll be part of the excitement that is both Equitana and Horse Agility Australia! :)

HAA launching in Victoria

Our friends at Australian Equine Facilitated Learning will be hosting their first National EFL forum in Tooradin, Victoria on the 17th of September 2011.

An opportunity not to be missed, this forum is a must for anyone with an interest in EFL and equine therapy programs. The aim of the forum is to provide support and knowledge to a new but growing Equine Therapy Sector. Specialist guest speakers, question time with our professional panel, live link up with Franklin Levinson and an introduction to two new horse disciplines TREC & Horse Agility, plus information on new and upcoming AEFL programs, make up a day packed with information.

A Horse Agility Australia workshop will follow on the morning of Sunday 18 September.

Those interested in Horse Agility Australia in Victoria, particularly those interested in running local groups, should contact Andrew@horseagility.com.au for more information, or see – http://efl.net.au/fileadmin/filemount/pdf/AEFL_forum_17-9-11.pdf

Are the DVDs useful to your staff?  Yes, but sound quality is sometimes variable.

Do you organise screenings of the DVDs? Yes.

Can staff borrow the disc to watch in their own time?  They can if they want, but I’m not aware of anyone who has done so.

Are there some topics/sessions that are more popular than others? (ie: could we drop some, or increase others?)  The ones about upcoming reforms and changes that inform STO staff of the bigger strategic picture are the most popular.

Is the address we post to OK or would you like them addressed differently? (will be sent to a title, not a person)  The current address is fine.

Finally is there anything you’d like us to do to improve the service?  Could we have them a bit sooner following the end of the CO session if possible please?
